American Banker Podcast: 'You can't make it a side gig': Brett Pharr on banking as a service

Pathward’s Chief Executive Officer, Brett Pharr, spoke with Penny Crosman, Executive Editor, Technology, for an episode of the American Banker Podcast.

During the podcast, Pharr and Crosman talked about the banking as a service (BaaS) landscape, Pathward’s offerings and forming innovative bank-fintech partnerships.

Pharr also shared his thoughts on the opportunities ahead for BaaS, such as embedded finance, “It's growing, and our whole premise is financial inclusion for all, that's been the heart of why we're a banking as a service only bank, and we have really sort of gone 100% into that market and that market is growing significantly.”

The two also discussed regulatory and compliance considerations, the required due diligence throughout the customer process and what new banks entering the space should expect.
