LOUISVILLE, KY. – April 15, 2024 - Pathward®, N.A. announced its 2023 Volunteer of the Year, and this year’s winner is Chrystal Alvey. Alvey is a manager of customer experience in the Tax strategic business line and has been with the organization since 2013. She lives out her passion for service to her community through mentorship, tutoring and coaching endeavors, and supporting those burdened with food and housing insecurities.
Pathward’s Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an employee for their unwavering commitment to volunteering to make their community a better place for others. Pathward gathers peer-review nominations, then selects a winner who gets to direct a $5,000 financial contribution to their favorite non-profit.
Alvey’s servant leadership starts at home where she inspires her family to join her in her volunteer work supporting The Fight Foundation’s annual fundraising gala and 5k. Her husband and children regularly join in, and she is proud to share that volunteering is part of who they are now. At work, she inspires her colleagues to strengthen their own communities through volunteerism.
Here's what Alvey's colleagues had to say about her:
“Chrystal is generous with her time and talents. She brings light and life to many incredible charitable and community endeavors and has touched or enriched the lives of others, particularly those who are vulnerable or less able to help themselves.
“Chrystal is a role model to so many and inspires me every day to step out of my comfort zone and to be a helping hand to those in need. She is a great mentor in and out of the office. Her passion and involvement in the community are inspiring. She is a leader and role model for children in her community by mentoring, tutoring, and coaching.”
Alvey has directed her $5,000 award donation to The Fight Foundation, an organization on a mission to win the battle against childhood cancer. Inspired by her mother’s volunteerism and her friend’s personal story of beating childhood cancer and creating the foundation with his wife, Alvey’s passion for volunteerism led her to her advocate on behalf of The Fight Foundation.
The Co-Founder of The Fight Foundation Lynsey Buege had this to say when she learned of Alvey’s recognition, “Chrystal has been an incredible volunteer for our organization for many years! The title of Volunteer of the Year is certainly well deserved."
When asked about her volunteer efforts with the foundation, Alvey spoke fondly of her work to organize the annual Valentine Gala, “We meet several times a year to make it a success. We collect donations from Bullitt County, Jefferson County, and Lexington (Kentucky). Raffles and silent auction items are what help us bring in big money the night of the event.
With Alvey’s involvement, the foundation’s annual gala has gone from raising about $50,000 to approximately $150,000 for the foundation.
When asked how she makes it all work, she said that Pathward’s volunteer hours make it much easier and that many organizations provide easy ways to volunteer with various projects, some that you can do at home.
Through Pathward’s Community Impact Program, eligible employees can take 16 hours of Volunteer Time Off each year. Also, by logging volunteer hours, employees can direct up to $480/year to their favorite qualifying nonprofit through our Dollars for Doers program. Learn more about how Pathward is giving back.
