Pathward President Anthony Sharett joined other financial experts in sharing insights on how community banks can partner with fintechs to drive innovation and growth during a panel discussion, Balancing Act: Pushing for Innovation While Mitigating Risks. The panel was part of American Banker’s Virtual Summit on Community Banking: Partnering with Fintechs to Enhance the Digital Customer Experience held on Sept. 25.

The panelists shared strategies for creating meaningful, scalable solutions in an evolving financial landscape where many community banks depend on fintech partnerships for critical banking activities. When discussing the types of partnerships that lead to long-term success, Sharett highlighted purpose alignment, market gap identification, scalability and risk-adjusted returns. He said, “We want to build Legos, not unicorns,” referring to Pathward’s focus on creating repeatable, modular platforms comprising people, processes, technology and tools that can be layered across multiple partners for broad market impact.

Sharett also touched on Pathward’s mission to close market gaps that disproportionately affect individuals and small-midsized businesses. He described Pathward’s approach to co-creation and innovation as “more scalable, impactful and material” when working with partners, noting that fintechs are uniquely positioned to address complex financial needs.
